250 million people.
250 million stories waiting to be told.
At Gully Kahani, we believe every voice carries weight. Not one louder, not one more important than the other. In a world dominated by Western narratives and performative desi content, Gully Kahani tells the unfiltered and deeply human stories from the gullies of Pakistan beyond filters and stereotypes.
Real people. Real lives. Real kahaniyan.
The shift from traditional media to digital platforms, combined with the failure of Pakistani conventional media to create content tailored to the new generation's digital habits, has led to the erosion of traditional cultural markers.
A survey of 2,200 respondents across 38 cities revealed a populace deeply rooted in its cultural identity: people still gathering at dhabas for chai, a great reverence for family values, and the kurta shalwar as a quiet assertion of desi identity. Across generations, there is a shared desire to reconcile heritage with modernity, and pride with progress.
Yet, mainstream media continues to disregard these nuances, reducing a complex society to cliches. Meanwhile, the surge in regional music, independent cinema, and art, signals a profound collective yearning for authentic, desi expression. This cultural revival is the pulse of a nation rediscovering its voice.
Gully Kahani speaks to the people craving Pakistani authenticity: its subcultures, contradictions, and conversations. Every feature is a window into the streets, hearts, and minds of the real Pakistan, satiating the hunger for true-to-life desi narratives told with dignity, not irony.
Gully Kahani is building a global home for South Asian storytelling: a cultural repository that tells Pakistan’s stories with honesty, depth, and integrity, redefining how the world sees Pakistan and how Pakistanis see themselves.
Founder’s Manifesto
" Throughout my career in development, I saw how ground realities and everyday life often slipped through the cracks: reports spoke of quantitative progress, but discounted the lived experience of millions of people who make up Pakistan’s heartbeat. The ground realities, the rhythm of daily life, the chai breaks, and street corners where conversations take place, all seemed to exist outside the meetings and progress reports. I wanted to create something more personal, rooted in day-to-day realities. In a country of over 250 million people, there are 250 million unique stories. Gully Kahani was founded to tell those stories; the ones found in loud street banter and in quiet acts of resilience.
International development often overlooks the common man; mainstream media rarely pauses to listen. Gully Kahani exists to reclaim the narrative from the top down, and show how ordinary lives reflect extraordinary truths about who we are.
The revolution begins in the gully, one kahani at a time. "
